Garbiker holds stakes in the company Bizkaiko Txintxor Berziklategia, AB -BTB- jointly with construction company Pavisa.
The BTB Plant, opened on June 24, 2002, is located in Ortuella, in the neighbourhood of Orkonera, and is devoted to the reuse of construction and demolition waste.
Construction waste consists mainly of concrete, however household renovation construction waste is also treated at this Plant, most of this coming from the Garbigunes. This is less homogeneous than construction waste, with a percentage of concrete below 45%.
The Plant is designed for treating a total of 300,000 tonnes a year (200,000 tonnes from construction waste and 100,000 tonnes from household renovation construction waste).
What is the process?

1. The material is sent to the feeding hopper.
2. It is fed into a grinding mill.
3. Once ground, it falls onto a vibrating tray.
4. From the tray, the material is conveyed on a conveyor belt incorporating a magnet for collecting ferrous material.
5. The material is conveyed onto a reversible belt that moves in two directions.
6. Toward the sieve: in the case of construction waste, the concrete.
7. Toward the trommel: in the case of household renovation construction waste.
8. From the trommel, all material exceeding 60 mm in size is conveyed to the grading area.
9. All the grading area, the material is sorted out manually: timber, plastic, non ferrous material, etc.
10. From the trommel, all material smaller than 60 mm is conveyed to the sieve.
11. From the sieve, waste larger than 40 mm is returned to the mill.
12. From the sieve, waste between 10 and 40 mm is sent to the cyclone.
13. At the cyclone, air is used to suction the dust and light residues, separating these from heavier parts.
14. From the sieve, waste between 0 and 10 mm in size is not put through the cyclone, however it is mixed at the exit with the suctioned light materials.
15. Thus, varying fractions in grades are obtained. Once officially approved, this will be reused as road base.
