Controlled Urban Waste tips.
Controlled Urban Waste tips enable waste which has not been assessed either in terms of its material or energy value, to be deposited, treated and controlled
The Controlled Urban Waste tips managed by Garbiker are subject to strict surveillance and security controls that prevent illegal dumping, avoiding the negative effects for the environment of this system of waste disposal and the possible hazards for the health of human beings.
Garbiker has adapted its working and management procedures to European requirements which, in all cases, are determined by the current European Strategy on Waste . This Strategy emphasises the preventive measures in the generation of rubbish and the processes used to assess its value, and consider the final disposal of waste by dumping as a last resort.
The European Directive of April 29 1999, establishes strict technical requirements and procedures, measures and guidelines for waste and dumping to prevent or reduce the negative effects of waste disposal on the environment. It gives special importance to the contamination of surface water, underground water, the soil and the air and makes reference to the world environment, including the greenhouse effect, as well as all other hazards for human health, throughout the entire life cycle of the controlled tips.
Within the requirements included in the European Directive, conditions are established for their location, water control and leachate management, soil and water protection and the control of gas.
Garbiker, a.b. (s.a.) has been granted an Environmental Responsibility Insurance for 600.000 euro after passing the environmental audit carried out by an independent firm of consultants, commissioned by the State Environmental Insurance Pool, which indicates the level of compliance with the Environmental Regulations.
